How to Appeal an Amazon Suspension (2026): A Step-by-Step Guide
Getting the "Your account has been deactivated" email is gut-wrenching — your cash flow stops, inventory sits idle, and the clock starts ticking. The good news: most suspensions are reversible if you respond the way Amazon actually wants. This guide walks you through it calmly, step by step.

1. Read the deactivation notice carefully
Amazon's notice always states a reason — inauthentic complaint, used item sold as new, intellectual-property complaint, restricted product, high order-defect rate, and so on. Quote that exact reason in your appeal. Appealing the wrong problem is the #1 reason POAs get rejected.
2. Don't panic-reply, and don't beg
Amazon's Seller Performance team reads thousands of appeals. Emotional, apologetic, or blaming messages ("this is unfair", "the customer lied") get ignored. What works is a factual, professional Plan of Action (POA) that takes responsibility and shows you fixed the underlying process.
3. Find the real root cause
Amazon wants the systemic reason on your side — not "a customer complained." Ask: what in our process allowed this? Examples:
- Inauthentic complaint → a gap in supply-chain documentation, or sourcing from a channel you can't fully document.
- Used sold as new → an inbound receiving / quality-control gap.
- IP complaint → listed a brand/ASIN without authorization.
- Late shipment / ODR → a fulfillment or inventory-management gap.
4. Write the Plan of Action (three parts)
A POA Amazon accepts has exactly three sections:
- Root Cause — the specific process gap on your side. Take responsibility.
- Corrective Actions — concrete steps you have already taken (removed the listing, obtained invoices, audited inventory).
- Preventive Measures — systemic changes so it never recurs (a new inbound QC check, weekly account-health review, supplier vetting).
Keep it factual and concise, use bullet points, and attach the evidence Amazon expects for your reason type (for inauthentic: supplier invoices from the last 365 days). See our Plan of Action template with examples.
5. Attach the right documents
Words alone rarely reinstate an account. Depending on the reason, attach: supplier invoices (last 365 days, quantities matching your sales), brand authorization letters, a retraction from a rights owner (for IP), or your corrected process documentation.
6. Submit through the right channel and be patient
Submit via the "Reactivate your account" / Account Health flow referenced in your notice. Responses can take from a day to a couple of weeks. If rejected, don't resubmit the same thing — tighten the root cause and add stronger evidence.
Common mistakes that get appeals rejected
- Blaming Amazon, the customer, or a competitor.
- Vague root cause ("we'll be more careful").
- Promising future actions instead of showing completed ones.
- No supporting documents.
- Appealing a different issue than the one stated.
